Boy-and-Girl-on-traditional-dress

Boy and girl in traditional dress in a coffee growing village located in the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains in Northeast India.

This is one of the primary areas where the Global Coffee Group (GCG) is working with local villages to export coffee to the United States.

The GCG is currently in the development stages of working with the local coffee growers to help provide a means of supplementing their income to help stem the loss of young villagers to the big cities and help to preserve the customs and cultures of the villages.

The GCG is also working with local coffee growers in West Bengal, India, Guatemala and Indonesia and is engaged in preliminary dialogue with key persons in Kenya, and Vietnam. In the near-future, we will be ready to launch our standalone website dedicated to coffee.

Family Coffee Farm in Guatemala

Grampa Leon

The Global Coffee Group has a close, supportive relationship with a family coffee farm in Guatemala, which is very special. It is a coffee farm, which started in the 1880s and has been supporting the family and coffee workers ever since. Shown in the picture is Grandpa Leon, working hard on the farm in the 1960s.

The coffee on the farm is grown at a high altitude in a shaded environment. This allows the beans to have a slow development cycle which instill an intense and fulfilling flavor to each bean. The coffee is 100% Arabica, and is of the Bourbon and Typica coffee specie, which produce higher quality beans that other varieties of coffee types. The coffee is consistently graded in the upper 80s.

This is a family operation and is noteworthy, not only for the quality of our coffee, but for our concern of the environment, and most importantly, the life and welfare of all the workers who we employ and who depend upon us. For this reason we are particularly sensitive to the pricing and marketing of our coffee. Far too often the hard-working coffee growers are taken for granted as the large companies who buy coffee apply hurtful pressure upon us to keep our wholesale prices low so the corporate giants can get a maximum return on their bottom line. The result is the coffee workers and our family operation suffer.

Our single-family coffee farm is closely associated with the Global Coffee Group and a “brother-in-arms” to help us and to provide you with the quality coffee from our farms. When you drink our coffee, please remember you are directly helping the workers on our farm, because we pay them more than the customary, rock-bottom wages. Thank you.

West Bengal, India Coffee

West-Bengal---India-Cofee

In North Bengal, India, in the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains is the city of Siliguri. Here is a growing effort to help indigenous farmers grow coffee. This effort is relatively young and the coffee plants won’t reach maturity for several more years. It is an effort to help the local people develop the means to improve their standard of living. The Global Coffee Group is proud to be affiliated with the Himalayan Cornerstone Coffee Enterprise. It is our goal to help them by developing a U.S. market for their coffee. As soon as some of their coffee is harvestable in small quantities, it will be available on our Global Coffee Group website. From time to time we will provide you with an update on how the Cornerstone Coffee Enterprise is progressing. Thank you for your support.
